Manta Ray II - Peter Viet-Lu
Peter is a multidisciplinary artist with a passion for exploring themes within Natural History & Anatomy, intertwined with popular culture.
His work takes on an abstracted form, while using contemporary aesthetics to create a playful approach to references of specimens both living and archival.
He enjoys blending a variety of techniques with pattern-making in his artwork and combining sculpture, photography, drawing, painting and most recently metal work, which ultimately allows him to be diverse and creative.
MANTA RAY II
Peter Viet Lu’s ‘Metal-Gami’ were inspired by an earlier project which involved paper models, drawing, painting and photography. He wanted to render something that is inanimate and fragile and give longevity to the Origami and Kirigami models he had created.
Peter loves working with his hands and was thrilled by the prospect of metal fabrication and welding, to turn paper into steel, and to interpret his drawings back to their 3D format.
Medium - steel, oak, spray-paint, vinegar, salt, and hydrogen peroxide
46 cm tall
21 cm tip to tail
