Hermetic Principles - The Principle of Mentalism - Sam Weeks

£225.00

Whilst exploring composition in her sketchbook, the phrase ‘As above, so below’ kept coming into artist, Sam’s mind. As part of her creative practice, Sam has taught herself to be aware of her actions, coining the approach, to ‘Notice, what I notice’ when creating. She started researching this phrase, following a trail of breadcrumbs, which led her to discover the Hermetic Principles.

The principles captivated her and so this became an immersive project for new work, to explore the symbolism and concepts held within the Hermetic Principles. On a fundamental level, the principles, of which there are seven, are the foundation of Hermeticism, a branch of spiritual philosophy dating back as early as the first century A.D. The teachings offer a guide to Spiritual Self-Mastery and how we can use them to live a more fulfilling life.

Sam states that “researching this body of work and creating the paintings took me on a fascinating and thought-provoking journey; the concepts within them prompted much personal reflection and learning. I hope the paintings are intriguing and inviting, drawing the observer in to interpret them in their own way, finding interest in the symbolism, text, and visual textures, but also allowing space and time to contemplate and reflect. I hope they make the observer feel inspired, present and thoughtful, when looking at them.”
