Mini Disco Ball II - Kate Brinkworth

£550.00

British artist, Kate Brinkworth has always been fascinated by storytelling and holds a deep love for cinema, which perfectly combines imagery and narrative, her two passions. At university, she studied film construction, examining how images merge to create a story and identifying key elements and scenes. She considered how colour, light, shadow, camera angles, focus, objects, and setting engage the imagination, enabling viewers to understand an idea and enhance their experience.

She gathered intriguing items—dice, insects, cameras, letters, papers to craft her own images. She arranged small still lifes, played with lighting, adjusted focus to make certain aspects more prominent, and then captured these arrangements in paintings.

As Brinkworth embraced the challenge of photorealism and enjoyed the opportunity to add more detail to a painting than a photo could show. She experimented with intense colours and light, making her chosen objects appear alluring and shiny. Amplified Reality, if you will.

Her artwork invites viewers to question their perceptions, often resembling photographs at first look. Since 2001, she has displayed her lively still lifes throughout the UK and North America, enchanting viewers with her playful yet meticulous approach to her practice.
