Mengyao Qin

Mengyao Qin is a talented Chinese artist living and working in the UK. Raised in an artistic family, Mengyao was immersed in the arts from a young age, with a music educator mother and an art teacher father. This early exposure to art, combined with experiences in violin and dance, has become a rich source of inspiration for her creative practice.

Mengyao’s mother, who also developed a passion for painting, has been her greatest supporter. Their family studio, located on a picturesque hill, has been a nurturing environment where creativity flourished. These daily sessions of painting and music have deeply influenced Mengyao’s artistic journey.

She studied Arts Designtology at China Academy of Art, where she gained a comprehensive understanding of art history and cultural heritage. This education, coupled with rigorous training in art criticism, has honed her ability to continually refine and contextualize her work in contemporary discourse.

Mengyao furthered her education with a Master of Fine Art at Birmingham School of Art, solidifying her commitment to the artistic process. For her, creating art is a vital practice that helps her shape and understand her existence.

In her work, Mengyao explores the intersection of her Chinese heritage and her life in the UK, blending traditional Chinese painting techniques with abstract expressionism. Her standout piece, Spring Brew, exemplifies this balance, serving as a new language that resonates with diverse audiences.

Mengyao hopes her art evokes emotions and personal memories in viewers, creating a dynamic interaction between the personal and the universal. Her favourite work is always the one she is currently creating, driven by a restless creativity and a desire to push boundaries
